Community Day School

The Community Day School is an educational program in the Sweetwater Union High School District for students in grades 7-10. As part of Department of Alternative Education, teachers at the Community Day School adhere to SUHSD required courses of study.  Students participate in all required district and state academic performance testing programs.  Student work is evaluated and credits are earned in accordance with SUHSD grading policies.  CDS offers 360 minutes per day of direct instruction daily (P.E. is included in this time.)  District transportation is available.

Our Mission:

As the Community Day School Team, we seek to restore and reconnect students with their home communities.  We attend to the needs of the whole child by establishing a sense of safety and belonging through modeling, coaching and teaching.  Through the establishment of trusted student-teacher relationships, we actively support the academic, behavioral and emotional development of our students.  Ultimately, it is our goal to empower our students to be their own agents of change and create a positive impact in their communities.

Our Vision:

Every Community Day School student will develop the social, emotional, and academic skills to achieve their own definition of success. The Community Day School staff will receive ongoing professional growth to promote continuous improvement; they will work collaboratively to align best practices that support consistent student achievement by identifying and removing systemic, instructional and academic barriers to student success.

Our Purpose:

Community Day School is a place where legacy lives.  We embody the lessons, drive and courage of our greatest teachers, mentors and coaches.  We strive to make a difference in the lives of the students we serve, so they, too, may pay it forward.
